Draper, Utah - March 25, 2025

Last year, Arthur Jessop was working in private equity and contemplating launching his own consulting firm when he first conceived the idea for Base Case.

“I’d go to our headquarters in Dallas and get frustrated working on my laptop. I thought, 'There has to be a way to have a suitcase that folds out and becomes a dual-screen workstation,'” Jessop recalls.

He searched for existing solutions but found nothing that met his vision. Another challenge he frequently faced was presenting during Zoom calls while on the road.

“I was constantly presenting but couldn’t see my audience. I kept wondering—why can't I just have my existing workstation with me everywhere I go?”

From Garage Prototype to Market

In June, Jessop took matters into his own hands.

“I bought a high-quality, hard-shell suitcase online, re-engineered all the hinges, and started building the product myself in my garage,” he explained.

The result? Base Case—a sleek, portable workstation that integrates a suitcase with extendable legs and a detachable briefcase for accessories.

When Jessop took his creation on trips, it immediately caught people’s attention.

“People kept asking me, 'Where did you buy this? This is incredible.'”

By October, he had hired engineers and launched a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo that ends this week. As of March 25, 2025, Base Case has raised over $385K on a goal of $50K. Backers can lock in a discounts for various Base Case packages. So far nearly 250 backers have thrown in support.

In January 2025 the Base Case team introduced the Base Case at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. They were swamped with interest, especially from buyers from federal agencies, police, and the military that had not seen anything like it.

“We developed elegant prototypes incredibly fast. It all came together quicker than I could have imagined,” noted Jessup.

What Does Base Case Include?

The finished product is a powerhouse of productivity.

“It has a detachable briefcase, dual 24-inch 4K screens, and extendable legs that spin out for quick setup. The briefcase can store a Starlink system, a laptop, or even luggage. There’s also a power port door with dual HDMI or USB-C Thunderbolt connections,” explained Jessop.

The goal? “A clean, clutter-free workstation, wherever you go.”

Expanding Features and TSA Approval

Base Case is also developing an attachable duffel bag.

“It clips to the front just like the briefcase. You can detach it, fold it in half, and stow it under an airplane seat,” Jessop noted.

One of its biggest advantages? It’s TSA-approved.

“I’ve been pulled aside twice at security, and both times they opened it up, said, 'That looks cool,' and sent me on my way.”

However, Jessop advises against checking it as luggage.

“We’re building a consumer version that isn’t ruggedized. We’d never recommend putting it in a checked bag.”

Who’s Interested in Base Case?

Base Case has already garnered attention from federal agencies, the military, and professionals from various industries.

The company validated its demand with a pre-sales campaign in which 1,000 supporters paid a $50 deposit to secure their spot.

“We’re talking accountants, business owners, construction workers, photographers, CPAs—so many people said, 'I’ve been dreaming of this my entire life. Thank you for making it a reality.'”

A Game-Changer for Remote Work

One of Base Case’s standout features is its rapid 30-second setup.

“If I’m on vacation with my family in Mexico, I might not be able to completely disconnect for a week. With Base Case, I can set up in my hotel room and get right to work,” Jessop shared.
