Britton and Sarandon Rasmussen are on a mission to add spice to couples through exciting, clue-fueled dates. Their startup, Adventure Couples, based in Fruit Heights, Utah, curates adventurous, themed contests for couples. Their first trial contest last month was a big success. Their next contest is shaping up to be even better.

The Rasmussen's trace the origins of their startup journey to their own love story. Their courtship included many adventurous dates: "We did 'dates in a cave,' soaking in Utah's many hot springs, watching movies on the Salt Flats, and more," said Britton.

As is often the case, their lives changed after the arrival of their first child. Suddenly, they were thrust into a daily routine filled with routine responsibilities and tedious tasks that, while satisfying in many respects, also gradually sapped the stimulation from their previously energetic, fun-drenched lifestyle.

Britton and Sarandon managed to continue the tradition of date nights every Wednesday, but the dates gradually became less imaginative. "We kept up the Wednesday thing, but the creative part ended after about six months," shared Britton Rasmussen with TechBuzz. We reverted to being that couple that would just throw on a movie for date night—and that kind of thing doesn't really create core memories."

Comparing notes with other young Utah couples, the Rasmussen's noticed an all too common pain point: thirst for excitement among harried couples caught in a monotonous daily grind. "We found that all these couples wanted to enjoy more meaningful dates but we were caught up in a drift of daily responsibilities."

Britton and Sarandon decided to create adventurous dates in order to rekindle their own romance. "Adventure," declared Britton, "...is the cornerstone of our strong relationship." Yet at the same time, they thought that curating adventurous dates could appeal to many other adventure-starved couples of the Beehive State and actually become a valid startup concept.

Hence, Adventure Couples was born.

Working with Britton's father, a licensed therapist, Klayne Rasmussen, they developed a concept of curating relationship-strengthening activities based on therapeutic research and clinical studies. "All of our back end products like the adventure contests are all about relationship building backed up by therapeutic research. So not only do we offer these crazy adventures, we also help build those relationships through fun, therapeutically-validated activities."

In October, for their first Adventure Couples trial date they launched a couples only treasure hunt that took participating couples to myriad iconic locations across the state. The big prize was a five-day all-inclusive vacation to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (won by the couple pictured left...with the stroller). The turnout exceeded all expectations: Over 2,700 couples participated, all meticulously documenting each step with photos and video and posting on social media (some of which are pictured here). It was a huge success, personal triumph, and validation of the Adventure Couples startup concept.

And now, the Rasmussen's announce, here on TechBuzz, their next adventure treasure hunt: Utah Couples Christmas Chase.

Think of a Twelve Days of Christmas, holiday-themed contest which will involve couples deciphering clues on a daily basis and engaging them in a Polar Bear Plunge, caroling at a local hospital, romantic moments under the mistletoe, and nine other daily adventures.

It's set to kick off on December 2, 2023. 2,800 couples have registered so far.

On December 14 it culminates with a grand finale—a “Santa Chase” taking place at historic Saltair on the south shore of the Great Salt Lake. It will include a literally up-for-grabs prize awarded by jolly old St. Nick—an all-expense paid 5-day trip to Puerto Vallarta. Several other prizes will be awarded as well.

As a serial entrepreneur with over 30 startups under his belt, Britton Rasmussen said Adventure Couples is vastly different from his previous startups. "Adventure Couples is the first time I've started a business that actually is serving people and is driven by intense passion."

The Rasmussen's passion is to curate future couple adventure dates. TechBuzz will continue to report on them and offer breaking announcements of the upcoming Couples Christmas Chase.
