Provo, Utah, October 9, 2024
On Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Gabb for Good and Carry On present the "Disconnect to Connect Family Skateboard Night," a purpose-driven event at Carry On Skatepark (244 West 100 South, Provo).
The event offers Utah families a unique opportunity to take a break from screens, enjoy skatepark fun, and support youth mental health initiatives while promoting safe technology for families in need.
U.S. Surgeon General issued an advisory about social media's impact on youth mental health. The advisory states that the types of use and social media content children and adolescents are exposed to pose significant mental health concerns. Children and adolescents who spend more than three hours a day on social media face double the risk of mental health problems, including experiencing symptoms of depression and anxiety.
The State of Utah has also taken notice of the problem and has acted with pending laws, lawsuits, and campaigns noting the potential dangers of social media and screen time.
Tickets are available for this family-friendly event, designed to bring the community together with a range of engaging activities, including skateboard clinics, games, arts and crafts, and more.
Attendees can enjoy tacos from the food station, enter a raffle for exciting prizes, and take part in hands-on activities that focus on creativity, connection, and fun—without digital distractions.
Adult tickets are $10, children’s tickets are $5.
Event Highlights Include:
- Skateboard Clinics for children ages 4-12, with slots available for beginners and intermediate skaters.
- Taco Station serving delicious tacos with tickets provided upon entry (additional tickets available for purchase).
- Games and Crafts including clay crafts, face painting by Miss Utah Volunteer, and games outside and inside the skatepark.
- Drawing and Donation Station to support youth mental health and safe technology access for families.
- Phone Check a “coat check” for your phone with disposable and polaroid cameras to capture the moments instead.
The event will kick off with a welcome address from Carry On and Gabb for Good at 5:15 pm, followed by two rounds of skateboard clinics, activities in the bowl, and an open skate session for teens from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Proceeds from drawing ticket sales and merchandise will go toward providing safe technology for families in need and supporting youth mental health programs.
Skateboard clinics during the event are filled at this time, but families can still register for other activities.
Carry On offers two additional free clinics on Saturday.
