Pleasant Grove, Utah - April 22, 2025
In an industry saturated with wellness fads and short-lived health trends, one company has not only weathered the storm — it’s thriving because of it. Echo Water, a hydrogen health tech startup based in Pleasant Grove, Utah with roots dating back to 2007, has emerged as a category-defining brand in the rapidly growing hydrogen water space. And it all started with a hunch.
Founder Paul Barattiero launched Echo Water after seeing his wife’s health issues improve when she drank hydrogen-rich water. At the time, the science was virtually nonexistent — no studies, no hype, just anecdotal results. Betting on what he believed could be a breakthrough, Paul built a hydrogen water system from scratch and planted a flag in the unknown.

By 2008, a landmark study in Nature validated his instincts, demonstrating the health benefits of hydrogen gas and water. The timing couldn’t have been better. What started as a garage project quickly gained traction. Today, Echo’s website hosts over 1,300 peer-reviewed studies from global research institutions, consolidating the science behind hydrogen’s therapeutic potential.
“Hydrogen is as foundational to the body as oxygen or carbon,” says Josh Carr, Echo’s CEO. “When we’re low on hydrogen, our health suffers — just like when we’re oxygen-deprived.”
Carr compares hydrogen supplementation to oxygen therapy: “If someone isn’t getting enough oxygen and starts supplementing, they feel it in every part of their body. Hydrogen works in a similar way — it’s systemic.”

Carr explained that people consuming hyroden-rich water experience an energy boost. "You get a boost of energy almost immediately after drinking it," said Carr. " At two o'clock in the afternoon when you're feeling a little groggy, many people might reach for a cup of coffee, but that caffeine is going to disturb your sleep. It's got an eight hour half life, so it's still in your system when you're going to bed. Turning to hydrogen for that little mid-day boost is better for your sleep and everything else."
Carr’s journey with Echo started not as a CEO, but as a skeptic. Diagnosed with a genetic arthritis condition, he was reintroduced to Paul in late 2022. Out of courtesy, he began drinking hydrogen water. A week later, his symptoms had vanished.
“I was stunned,” Carr recalls. “I didn’t expect anything. But the inflammation was gone. That’s when I knew this was real.”
In early 2023, Carr officially joined forces with Barattiero to relaunch Echo. Carr took the helm as CEO, while Paul stepped into a visionary, evangelist role. By year’s end, the newly revived company had rocketed to $6 million in sales — and then 5x growth in 2024. So far in 2025, the momentum hasn’t slowed.
That explosive growth has been fueled by a string of product innovations, the latest of which is the Echo Flask, a touchscreen-enabled smart water bottle that generates hydrogen-rich water directly inside the bottle and syncs with a mobile app. The Echo Flask uses a unique application of a well-established technology, a Proton Exchange Membrane, that includes a special port within the design to eliminate unwanted gases such as O2, O3, and CL2.

“We spent all of last year developing the Echo Flask, secured two patents — utility and design — and it’s now the highest-performing hydrogen bottle on the market,” Carr says. “Of course, that means we’re also seeing a lot of knockoffs coming out of China.”
Unlike traditional health brands that lean heavily on paid advertising, Echo’s go-to-market strategy is almost counterintuitive: influence the influencers. The company has made waves by engaging high-profile voices in the health and wellness space — many of whom promote Echo without compensation after experiencing the benefits firsthand.
“It’s not just about influencers,” Carr clarifies. “It’s about making them believers first. That’s been our secret weapon.”
To support market education, Echo has leaned into speaking engagements and live demos — from last year’s Outdoor Retailer Expo to the 2025 Health Optimization Summit in Austin.

Next Frontier: Echo Hydrogen Prebiotic
Last week, Echo unveiled its newest product: the Echo Hydrogen Prebiotic, a single-serve powder that combines hydrogen with gut-friendly prebiotics. Each packet delivers 5.58 ppm of molecular hydrogen — matching high-end generators — and mixes with water or juice for a convenient, apple-flavored wellness boost.
Carr calls it the “next evolution” in hydrogen health: “We wanted something powerful, portable, and rooted in science. No equipment. No wait. Just results.”
The formulation is designed to support energy, mental clarity, microbiome health, and inflammation reduction — with hydrogen and prebiotics working synergistically to optimize absorption and recovery at the cellular level.

Each five-day supply retails for $19.99, with monthly packs at $59.99. More flavors are on the way.
As Echo doubles down on convenience and performance, it’s positioning itself as more than just a hardware company. It’s building a hydrogen-powered wellness ecosystem.
Carr sees no ceiling. “This isn’t a trend. This is foundational health. We’re just getting started.”
