Amazon Web Services (AWS) has named 15 startup EdTech companies selected to participate in the inaugural AWS Education Accelerator.
Provo-based startup Infini‑D Learning has been selected as one of 15 startups in Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) inaugural Education Accelerator cohort.
Infini-D Learning has developed an immersive platform that transforms classroom learning by combining story-driven narratives with collaborative problem-solving to help students tackle real-world challenges. Over 400 schools have used the platform.
"We've been working tirelessly at Infini-D Learning to redefine the limits of technology in education, always asking, 'What if?', said Skyler Carr, Co-founder and CEO of Infini-D Learning. "Getting this nod from AWS is huge for us. It validates the giant strides we've been making. So, stay tuned; we've got some major announcements on the horizon that are really going to shake things up."
Announced in October 2023, the AWS Education Accelerator supports EdTech startups that have demonstrated innovations to enhance teaching and learning and to improve educational outcomes.Over the course of the 10-week accelerator, Infini-D Learning will receive guidance, mentorship, collaboration, and coaching opportunities, along with up to $100,000 in AWS computing credits to help accelerate its mission using AWS.
Participating EdTech startups in this cohort hail mostly from the US and two from the UK. Infini-D Learning is the only participating company from Utah.
These companies are focused on a wide range of solutions for PK-12, higher education, and workforce education customers. By leveraging AWS to develop the next generation of EdTech solutions, these startups aim to address education challenges such as student engagement, financial literacy, student health and well-being, upskilling, and operational inefficiencies.
The 10-week Accelerator program kicks off this week at Amazon’s Headquarters in Seattle. Each of the participating startups will receive up to $100,000 in AWS computing credits, hands-on workshops, an individually curated curriculum, business mentoring and technical guidance, insights from Amazon leaders and teams, networking opportunities with potential investors and customers, and ongoing advisory support. The program will culminate with a virtual Emerging Technology Showcase in collaboration with OMNIA Partners to increase visibility with education customers.
The ultimate goal is for EdTech founders to leave the program ready to close new customer opportunities, expand their partner networks, raise funds and fast-track their EdTech startup.
Founded in 2017, Infini-D Learning is an education technology that developed the “Infini-D Lab” platform, with support from a National Science Foundation grant. The platform hosts several simulation games that students play together as a class. The simulations can serve as capstones to classroom instruction. In the simulations, students do preparatory research, assume different roles within a broader team, and embark on “missions” that tests their mastery of what learned in the simulation. During missions, students are prompted to interact with one another and solve real problems (like a tsunami hitting a human outpost on a fictional remote planet), which the technology analyzes to assess each student’s subject mastery, and 21st-century skills.
