Utah Valley University's School of Education will hold its inaugural MakerCon conference on November 8th and 9th in the Sorensen Student Center on UVU’s Orem Campus.

MakerCon is for educators and community makers who want to explore innovative ways to integrate technology and hands-on, project-based learning into their curriculum, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in students.

Attendees will experience a dynamic lineup of workshops, keynote speakers, hands-on activities, and exhibitions featuring local creators.

The November 8th session is intended for teachers (K-12 and beyond), school administrators, curriculum developers, education technology specialists, librarians, media specialists, STEM/STEAM coordinators, and art educators. There is a $49 fee to attend this Friday session.

The Saturday, November 9th session is free to the public. It has been designed for K-12 students, educators, librarians, makers, and all those who want to attend.

“We are so excited to provide this opportunity for educators, makers, and K-12 students to learn about and experience maker learning and Makerspaces at the upcoming UVU MakerCon,” says Dr. Krista Ruggles, the event organizer and Department Chair of UVU's Elementary Education Program. Ruggles teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in UVU's School of Education, focusing on STEM and educational technology. 

Event Highlights Include:

  • Keynote Speakers: Industry leaders and innovators will discuss the latest insights for the future of technology and design.
  • Hands-On Workshops: Attendees can participate in interactive workshops on topics such as 3D printing, robotics, electronics, and woodworking. UVU's new makerspace will feature an array of new 3D printers.
  • Networking Opportunities: The event provides a platform for attendees to connect with industry professionals and potential collaborators.
  • Family-Friendly Activities: The sessions are designed to spark creativity in attendees of all ages.
