Today Particl announced it has been named to Fast Company’s third annual Next Big Things in Tech list, honoring technology breakthroughs that promise to shape the future of industries—from healthcare and security to artificial intelligence and data. Particl is one of six companies awarded for innovation in e-commerce and retail. Another Utah-based company, Artifact, also made the list.
Founded in 1995, and acquired in 2005 by Mansueto Ventures (New York), Fast Company is a popular monthly business magazine focusing on technology, business, and design. It publishes six print issues per year. For their Winter 2023/24 issue, the media company highlighted 119 technologies developed by established companies, startups, or research teams for their cutting-edge advancements and potential to impact consumers, businesses, and society overall. While not all of the technological developments are available in the market yet, each one is reaching key milestones in order to have a proven impact in the next five years.
Fast Company assessed each application based on factors including, relevancy (what pressing problem does the technology solve?); ingenuity: (how novel is the technology?; progress and potential: (in what ways has the technology already proven itself? Is it positioned for long-term viability and scalability?); and impact (what kind of impact—from economic to cultural—might the technology have over the next five years?).
Each winner was chosen after multiple rounds of evaluation and conversation between judges about its performance on the above criteria, a monthslong process.
Particl is a South-Jordan-based AI product development and pricing platform for the world’s largest brands. The company says it has the most expansive, historical e-commerce datasets ever assembled paired with vast scraping technology and whose data and technology is best leveraged by DTC retail enterprises.
Recently, Particl debuted its latest AI tool, called “CoPilot,” that automatically compares brands to its closest competitors and surfaces actionable insights.
In November 2022, TechBuzz covered Particl's rebrand from Luz and its $8.5 million Series A investment led by Tandem Ventures, with participation from Album VC and Peterson Ventures. That A Round also included new investors, University Growth Fund and RevRoad Capital.
“We are honored and excited to be recognized for our technology breakthrough in retail and e-commerce,” said Particl Co-Founder and CEO Josh Wilson, pictured with his co-founders, Andrew Kenny (left) and David Smiley (right). “When we started, brands were making anecdotal, educated guesses on what to make and how to price it. Using our AI and data-centric approach to product development and pricing, we’ve given executives the tools they needed to make big decisions with proven data. We’ve now had our best year of growth ever and are excited for what the future holds.”
“The Next Big Things in Tech is not just a look around the corner—it's a look around the corner after that,” says Brendan Vaughan, editor-in-chief of Fast Company. “These are the products and ideas that will define technological innovation for the rest of this decade and beyond—and solve some of the world's most pressing issues. We are thrilled to honor the organizations that are making them a reality.”
