October 7, 2024 marked a historic day for Provo Airport. Amid a festive public celebration, major legacy carrier American Airlines launched its inaugural flights from Provo Airport (PVU) to its major hub, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), and to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX). This significant milestone for modest, but growing, Provo Airport signifies a major expansion of travel options for residents and visitors of Utah County.

The arrival of American Airlines, a legacy carrier known for its extensive network and reliable service, is expected to have a transformative impact on the region. With increased connectivity to major hubs, travelers will have more convenient access to destinations across the United States and beyond.

"This is a game-changer for Provo," said Brian Torgersen. "American Airlines presence will not only boost our local economy but also provide our residents with a much-needed alternative for air travel."

The airport has experienced a surge in popularity in recent years, and the addition of American Airlines is expected to further fuel its growth. The airline's commitment to Provo demonstrates its confidence in the region's potential and the increasing demand for air travel services.

American Airlines plans to offer two daily flights from PVU to DFW and one daily flight to PHX on the Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet platform.

Should bookings remain strong, American will offer a third daily flight to DFW beginning in November.

Service to DFW is significant in that it will provide PVU travelers with nonstop service to a top market (Dallas). As American Airline's largest hub, DFW offers numerous connecting opportunities to destinations around the world.

As American Airlines establishes its presence in Provo, other major airlines may be incentivized to follow suit. The success of this partnership could pave the way for additional flight options and increased competition, ultimately benefiting travelers.

The airport's leadership expressed gratitude for the community's support and enthusiasm throughout the process of securing American Airlines' service. The positive response from residents and visitors has played a crucial role in making this milestone a reality.

In addition to the inaugural flights, the Provo Airport hosted a celebratory event on October 7 to mark the occasion. The festivities included having BYU's charismatic mascot Cosmo there and a variety of activities, such as live entertainment, food, and giveaways.

The festive event provided an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate this exciting new chapter for the airport.

As the Provo Airport continues to grow and expand its offerings, it solidifies its position as a vital transportation hub for the region. The arrival of American Airlines represents a significant step forward in achieving this goal and ensuring that Utah County remains well-connected to the rest of the world.
