American Fork, Utah - April 2, 2025

YouScience, an American Fork, Utah-based education technology company focused on college and career readiness through its award-winning platform Brightpath, today announced a strategic investment from ECMC Group's Education Impact Fund (EIF) that backs organizations delivering measurable career-connected outcomes.

YouScience, a leading education technology company based in American Fork, Utah, announced a strategic investment from ECMC Group's Education Impact Fund (EIF). EIF, which backs organizations delivering measurable career-connected outcomes, aims to enhance college and career readiness through YouScience’s award-winning platform, Brightpath.

This partnership aligns with EIF’s mission to improve opportunities for underserved learners and workers. By leveraging YouScience’s scientifically backed aptitude assessments and industry-recognized certifications, the collaboration seeks to significantly enhance education outcomes and career prospects for students.

While financial details of the investment were not disclosed, YouScience Co-founder and CEO Edson Barton told TechBuzz that the figure is in the "multiple millions."

Bridging the Gap Between Education and Workforce

Barton highlighted EIF’s interest in YouScience, stating, "They recognize that a crucial connection between education and workforce readiness is missing in secondary and even post-secondary education. They see in YouScience the ability to bridge that gap."

EIF is one of three arms within the ECMC Group, a multi-stage impact investment fund focused on removing barriers to educational completion, revolutionizing skill development, unlocking equitable pathways, and fueling career success.

According to Barton, secondary schools are increasingly recognizing the value of career-connected learning and its positive impact on students. "All educators consider career-related outcomes, but it’s not always the primary focus of education. When they see a program delivering tangible results, it motivates them. They want to discuss it, share it, and implement it, which has been driving our growth. Our core belief is that career-connected learning improves every student outcome. When done correctly, the results speak for themselves."

A Strategic Investment for Greater Impact

Joseph Watt, Vice President at ECMC Group and Managing Director of EIF, emphasized the alignment of YouScience’s mission with EIF’s goals. "YouScience helps students uncover and act on their aptitudes, earn industry certifications, and connect with employers. This investment supports our commitment to fostering personalized pathways to college and career success."

Founded in 2006, YouScience has been adopted by over 13,400 schools and organizations nationwide, guiding 4.1 million individuals through aptitude-based college and career planning. To date, students have earned over eight million industry-recognized certifications through the platform.

Breaking Barriers with Data-Driven Career Guidance

Bias and stereotypes often limit opportunities for students. YouScience’s Aptitude & Career Discovery assessment helps break down these barriers by aligning students' natural talents with in-demand careers and the educational pathways needed to achieve them. The company’s career-connected learning (CCL) approach integrates industry certifications, work-based learning opportunities, and personalized guidance, ensuring students are prepared for real-world success.

"Educators are now adopting our program independently, without direct influence from our marketing team," said Barton. "They’re experiencing incredible results, and that’s the most gratifying part—seeing organic growth driven by student success."

Scaling Impact Through Partnership

Barton sees the partnership with ECMC as a pivotal step in reaching key decision-makers in education. "Having ECMC as an equity partner provides significant advantages. They have a larger national voice and influence on policy. While we’re already in 10-15% of U.S. secondary schools and serve millions of students, ECMC’s platform elevates our impact. Moving career-connected learning to the superintendent level, rather than just department-level, will open even more doors."

"This investment reinforces the message that there's a better way to engage, enroll, and support students in their education pathways," Barton added. "With EIF’s backing, we will expand our mission, closing opportunity gaps and empowering students with the tools they need for meaningful, personalized success."
